Smart Patrol Records is a record label that started up in 2001. We stole the name from a song by the new wave punk band Devo. We became introduced to Devo through skateboard movies in the late 80's. We found Devo to be challenging, powerful and subversive. One of their greatest songs "Smart Patrol/Mr. Dna" seemed to fit the concept of a record label perfect; catchy music filled with a certian style and a certain content.

Our hearts are forever anchored in the "do-it-yourself" ethic. We don't want fancy offices, bar-codes or corporate media. Smart Patrol Records is run out of our home. We do layout, run this webpage, do most distribution and mailorder out of the same room that we eat and sleep. This is the way we want to operate. We feel akin to Dischord, X-Port Plater and Desperate Fight Records and all those who came before us. We feel that we are all a part of the same DIY movement. We want to carry on tradition.
